Power to the Little People…

By Sabet
April 12th, 2007

- Recently, the 11th annual Webby Awards nominees have posted, giving nods to the many spectrums of sites running today. One of the catagories have come to my attention today… Community. Out of the five selected, there seems to be one who does not have deep pockets, like their competition. COLOURlovers remains true form in the world of art… with its own unique twist. This community shares the outlook on the way color is used in today’s world… the way it affects and defines us. Basically, you have a passion for color, this is the place to relate to other visually keen aritsts, developers, and professionals.

- What I would find more interesting, is the little company standing in line with nominess like Flickr, Threadless, Delicious, and Yahoo should not only earn the respect of its nomination, but should also slide away with the win. Why? Simple… “This isn’t ‘I Win, They Lose.‘ All of them have already won. They’re milions of dollars. They’ve made it.” stated Darius Monsef, founder of the site. And in all honesty, the additional relief projects (Hands On Worldwide) co-created by Monsef only proves that COLOURlovers has the stuff of dreams and heart in the right place.

- So the best I can say is to go and support the tiny idea that is making resounding waves online. It is time that the truest form of loving what you do should be acknowledged for knowing how to do it.

Love & Hate…

By Sabet
April 5th, 2007

- It seems to look like Hellobard has been up to all kinds of work lately… First, he pops up at PopCling, with some sweet wall designs. Then, the Stupid Tank vinyl has come into the spotlight. Now where else can he start to take over?? How about his own shoe line? From his site, it seems that the few mention here are just a tip of the iceberg. I think he’s on his way to rule the world of design. Makes me torn… It is great to see some nice style and design from fellow artists… but why can’t it just happen to me as well?? WHY?!?

- Hopefully… We continue to see more of what Hellobard’s world is like in the future…

Monster By Mail…

By Sabet
April 4th, 2007

- YouTube is becoming a synonymous place for up-and-coming artists to showcase their talents for the world to see. One such example is Monsters By Mail, a slick idea by Len and Nora of JawBone. Vistors can send in suggestions of adjective for a mere $20, and Len will create a fitting monster to it. The project is in motion to help raise funds for his wife’s coming birth. From searching both his Flickr and YouTube, it looks to me as if he sits at thirty-four currently… Len plans to stop once he reaches 150.

- I only had time to view a few of the video creations, but I have to say that this is very clever work. I will definitely be sitting in for the remain of his uploads and work, cause this a nice way to fuel your creativity for a solid purpose, and have fun in the same place. I think I may have to do something like this… cause I want to have fun too!

Squirrel Torture…

By Sabet
March 30th, 2007
http://www.duzty.com/pictures/squirrel.gif

- Ah, squirrels… Cute, mischevious, and susceptible to the the dangers of the human race… The studio MAKE in Minnesota, has taken the life of a squirrel and snuffed it out… literally. They just recently created to PSAs that hold a environment awareness message… although there outlook is a little strange. Cigarette and Trash are done well to not only good animation, but conveys a powerfully silent message… Stop destroying your world.

- On a different note… take moment and check of the other work being done by MAKE… Glumpers look cute, with side order of zany… Also, check out some of the commercial work they have tinkered with too… Great stuff!!

8-Bit Roll Call…

By Sabet
March 28th, 2007

- Another submission call… and we’re just getting to the hump day!! IGN has posted an open call for the 3rd annual I AM 8-BIT Show. All in all, this is a contest first off, but has quite an interesting giveaway for one lucky winner, plus a shot in their exhibit show… I say, why not?!? The exhibit deals mainly with games from the old-school 80’s era of videogaming, so let that theme guide your choices.

- But, I will stress… and so do they… they if you want a chance at this, you pretty much have until next week (April 6th). Any further questions? Well, I am sure the official rules will answer them. If not, then I just don’t know what to tell you… BUt check out a few of the pieces from the previous two exhibits, including the image above by Jen Rarey… sharp stuff!! I will be sure to keep you guys in the loop on the outcome of this one…

- It looks as if one the fellow Mojizu members has been busy… Brian Castleforte, aka NiceBunny, has been creating some great stuff on his new website. What has really caught my eye has been his sweet DIY paper bunnies. Currently, you can download Tagger Bunny, DJ Bunny, and Samurai Bunny… grab as many you need for your own paper bunny army. When you stop by though, give him props… He deserves it!!

Submissions Away!!

By Sabet
March 26th, 2007

http://duzty.com/pictures/mailme.gif

- Are you still looking to contribute your talent somewhere, but you haven’t found your outlet? Are you itching to have your chance at earning and winning in the same process? Well, do you know where your post office is?!? I hope you do… Darren Di Lieto, founder and editor of LCSV4, has placed a call to all artists. MAiLmeART.com is becoming a large collaborative project that invites everyone to take a chance at creating your best, and mailing it out to them. Upon entering, you have a shot at monthly contests, including your work in a gallery showing in the future. Too good to be true?? Well, there is a catch… Your art is the mail. Here is the following from Darren himself…

“Submissions can be envelopes or packages which have been drawn on, painted , dipped in acid, covered in paper mache (anything you want really) but they must look amazing and they must have travelled though the post with the postman able to see the work, so you can’t paint a canvas and wrap it up and post it to me. The wrapping is your canvas or in most cases an envelope.”

- So far, the submissions coming look great, and include some great artists… Ben the Illustrator, Bob Staake, Riot68, and Threepwood… the list is growing fast. Not to forget some of the prizes involved as well from Christian Lindemann, Alex Amelines, Zeptonn, and UrbanRetro… All I can say is drop what your doing, create to your hearts content, and send it out fast!! This is a great idea, that is sure engage many future endeavors… Good luck to MAiLmeART and to you guys too!!

- Here are a view image links to see what’s already coming together…

Curiously Funny

By Sabet
March 23rd, 2007

bananahands.jpg

- Man, this is a slick campaign! Altoids has created four television spots for a new cholocate-dipped mint. Well, I haven’t seen them on the tube yet, but once I wander through each one, I couldn’t stop laughing. The absolute best ones have got to be “Banana Hands” and “Blowhole Bob”. What I love about this the most is the fact that this stuff has that original feel to it… Anyway, click on the below to see for yourself. Excellent!!
- Banana Hands
- Blowhole Bob
- Half Deer Edwards
- Austrailian Double Back

HELLO?? Is anyone out there?

By Sabet
March 21st, 2007

confused blogger
Hi Everyone,
I’ve been running this blog for about a year now and I’m starting to get the feeling that it’s not hitting home with any of our readers. I don’t even know if we have any readers that come back regularly. Basically I’m writing to see if you guys are finding the info that we put up even interesting.
We don’t see any comments that are worth posting-most of them are SPLOGS! We search everday to find insparational sites, products and services, but i’m starting to feel like it’s really not appreciated.
I would really appreciate some feedback here!
1. Do you guys like what we offer here?
2. Do you find yourself wanting to come back for more?
3. What can we do differently to get you to come back?
4. What are your interests?
5. How did you find us?
At this point any feedback would be great feedback. Let us know if you think we suck! Or if you think we Rock!
Thanks for your time,
Ali Sabet
